Claire Pulford, Senior Sporting Events Manager, Breast Cancer Care
Claire Pulford joined Breast Cancer Care 6 years ago with the remit of building a sporting programme that would raise funds for the charity and help engage women in sport. Underpinning the strategy was the aim to improve awareness and access to Breast Cancer Cares services, coupled with the recognition that sporting events held a key for many people affected by breast cancer to take their first steps back to rebuilding their lives post treatment. Over the years Claire has built teams in major running events, looked to engage women in up and coming sports such as triathlons by offering women only events (Timex WomenOnly Tri), worked with brands like Highland Spring and media partners such as Women&Home to reach new audiences, and developed a series of mass participation events aimed at women (Breast Cancer Care Ribbon Walks).
She now manages a portfolio of 17 annual sporting events which to date have raised over 9million pounds and engaged 15,000 new sporting participants. Before joining Breast Cancer Care, Claire worked for API (now part of octagon), UCL, CSS Stellar and the London Marathon (where she spent a year working to raise the profile of Paula Radcliff before she ran her first ever marathon). Her areas of worked covered sports marketing, sponsorship and PR and it was a combination of these skills which she used to encourage more women to engage in sport whilst at Breast Cancer Care. During her 12 years in the sports industry Claire has continued to pursue her personal passion for sports and continues to play hockey on a weekly basis.
